'2000 Chinese Bean curd Cultural Festival,
sponsored by Bureau of Internal Trade and People's Government of Anhui Province,
understood by People's Government of Huainan City, will be held in Huannai City in
September 15 to 17,2000.
The purpose of Chinese Bean curd Cultural Festival is to enlarge Chinese bean curd's
culture, the aim is to increase the fame of Huannan City and to expand the opening to the
outside, and the key-point is to attract foreign investment and to develop export-oriented
economy. Chinese Bean curd Cultural Festival insists on promoting cross-straits
communication by taking bean curd's culture as medium in the fields of culture, economy
and business.

 Huainan
city has emerged as a large-sized energy base city since the
Liberation. It got its name because it’s
located at the south back of Huaihe River and it once was
territory of ancient Huainan State. People of Huainan have
initially started to develop and utilize coal resources by
the end of Qing Dynasty, which had already formed into a certain
scale till 30s. After the liberation in 1949, the “Huainan
Special District” has
been set up. In Sep. 1950, it turned into a county-level municipality,
in Jun. 1952, changed into a city under the jurisdiction of
provincial government. In Dec. 13 cities including Huainan,
Chongqing, Dalian, Qingdao, Wuxi, were approved separately
as the “sizable
city” by
the State Council and enjoyed local legislative power. In
1985, Huainan city was approved to open to the outside. In
the same year, comrade Lipeng inspected Huainan and left a
inscription as “ An
ancient battle field with minority to defeat the majority,
an energy with rice resources and fast development.”
in
1991, general secretary Jiang Zeming came to Huainan two times
a year for inspection and gave his inscription as “to
develop coal, power and chemical industry; to construct the
energy city”.
There’re
Han nationality and 22 other minority nationalities including
Hui, Meng, Tibetan, Miao, Zhuang etc.
